Southeastern reaches more people through increased use of technology

In a continuing effort to connect people with the message of the Gospel, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, N.C., has begun video podcasting of its chapel addresses.

The seminary, which has had a regularly occurring audio podcast of its chapel services for more than a year, recently expanded to include regular features of its twice-weekly messages in video format. About one video podcast will be released each week, and the new use of the technology will enable people worldwide to benefit from chapel as much as the students studying in Wake Forest.

“It’s exciting to know that from anywhere in the world someone can potentially hear and see the faithful preaching that the Southeastern family sees and hears every week from the Binkley Chapel pulpit,” said Dennis Darville, Vice President of Institutional Advancement.

Podcasting allows for the distribution of digital media files over the Internet in a format in which they can be played back on digital media players or computers. Users can subscribe to podcasts so that every time a new message is added, it will be downloaded to the user’s computer automatically.

Video podcasts can be played on computers or media devices which allow for video as well as audio content.

The inclusion of the video stream is part of the effort of the institution to better serve the church and her leaders. In addition to reaching more people actively involved in ministry, it will also open new doors to reaching the secular world, which ever-more increasingly uses technology in day-to-day life. In this way, the Southeastern family is hoping to reach even more people with the Gospel.

“I am delighted Southeastern is able to share these messages, for the glory of Christ and the service of his church,” Darville said.

Audio and video podcasts are available on Southeastern’s website. To subscribe to one or both of the podcast streams, please visit http://www.sebts.edu/chapel/podcast.cfm. It is also possible to listen to or watch individual messages independent of podcasting by visiting http://www.sebts.edu/chapel/chapelMessages.cfm.
